How to Store Delay Sprays and Timing Creams

You’ve bought the product. Now what? Proper storage is not complicated, but getting it wrong can reduce effectiveness or shorten shelf life. Here is what actually matters.

Temperature is the main concern

Delay sprays and timing creams contain an active anaesthetic ingredient — lidocaine or benzocaine — that degrades faster when stored in excessive heat. Pakistan’s summers make this a real consideration.

The standard advice on most packaging is to store below 25°C or 30°C and keep away from direct sunlight. In practical terms: a bedroom drawer or shelf is fine. A glove compartment in a parked car in June is not.

You do not need to refrigerate these products — cold storage can affect the spray mechanism and is not recommended. Room temperature in a shaded spot is the target.

Spray cans: specific points

Spray-format products are pressurised containers. A few things to keep in mind:

  • Do not puncture or expose to high heat — the can is pressurised
  • Store upright when possible
  • Replace the cap after each use to protect the nozzle
  • Keep away from open flames or any heat source

None of these are unusual — the same rules apply to any aerosol product.

Creams and gel formats

Tube-format creams are simpler to store. Keep them capped, away from direct sunlight, and at room temperature. If the texture or smell changes significantly, the product has likely been stored poorly or is past its useful life.

Check the expiry date

Every product has an expiry date printed on the packaging. Using an expired product is not dangerous — the anaesthetic will simply be less effective. If a spray stops working as well as it used to, check the date before assuming you need a higher concentration.

Most delay sprays have a shelf life of 2–3 years from manufacture. If you are buying in bulk to save on delivery, buy a quantity you will realistically use within that window.

Privacy at home

If privacy matters to you, a small lockable box or a drawer that only you use is perfectly sufficient. Most delay spray cans are about the size of a travel deodorant — easy to keep out of sight.

TimingSpray.com ships all orders in plain, unmarked packaging — there is no product name or store name on the outside of the parcel. What you do with it once it arrives is entirely up to you.

Quick summary

  • Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and heat sources
  • Do not refrigerate
  • Keep spray caps on between uses
  • Check the expiry date if effectiveness seems reduced
  • Avoid storing in hot cars or in direct sunlight for long periods
